“When I get into office, the first thing we have to do, social media accounts, social media companies, they have to show America their algorithms,” said Haley, a 2024 GOP presidential primary candidate, in a Fox News clip posted to X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Let us see why they’re pushing what they’re pushing,” Haley continued.
“The second thing is, every person on social media should be verified, by their name. That’s, first of all, it’s a national security threat. When you do that, all of a sudden, people have to stand by what they say.”

...Though I suppose from the perspective of the MilIndustrial complex, any sort of anonymity is a threat.
Given these days all such outbursts are recorded for all eternity you would have to be an absolute idiot to say anything at all since the most mundane comment today could readily get you utterly ostracized in 20 years time. Which of course is the entire idea, but has the side effect that the wisest people will be avoiding all participation.
Who exactly is the audience for this? So far as I know the only people with a Bee in their bonnet about anonymity are some people concerned about money going into politics and while you can make arguments about the merits or not of that I don't think anyone would disagree that it's a concern of Democrats not Republicans.
So either Haley is acting not calculating kooky but just hum drum kooky or her staff is really out of touch or some combination there of.
Still better then Trump but this doesn't do her credit.
Nikki Haley has no business deciding policy in this country. These people want social control and are willing to misrepresent anything in order to get it.
That's why I automatically reject any argument from the US that has to do with children or national security. They are bullshit reasons. This country doesn't help children, and if it cared about security it'd have kneecapped this MAGA shit when it first started.
As usual, grandstanding and empty rhetoric from the right.
> grandstanding and empty rhetoric
Unless voted in.. and a lot of the times these early phases of rhetoric prime the base to accept them, particularly when building up the "other" enemies.
