no. the car addiction has fueled the urban/rural divide, made us lazy, helped cause urban sprawl, destroyed public transportation (even in big cities) and has also helped our society become hopelessly addicted to fossil fuels.
I'll take my own two feet or a bicycle, thanks. Cars have tremendous value and utility but the automobile lobby has killed a lot of progress in this country too.
