Fair enough. I'd say the JVM and CLR are quite important and "sticky" as well on the server-side ;) But on the client-side, there is no contest, JavaScript (and thus WebAssembly) are the only option.

Just wanted to note that webassembly doesn't imply client, especially since docker's somewhat native support appeared

WASM also looks really good for native plugins and modifications (it's fast and secure by default).
