'Weird Tales' Review: Ghoulishness, a Literary View

This makes it sound like a cause-and-effect relationship between exchanging stories with Lovecraft and writing Psycho 25ish years later. Clearly he was interested in the macabre if he submitted a story to Weird Tales as a kid. Are the two things at all related?

Another great enabler of horror and fantastic fiction was Arkham House, whose original editions are now collectors items. If you can find "Arkham's Masters of Horror" there's a really interesting introduction about August Derleth and the others who formed a sort of cadre against the mainstream and saved each other's work from (total) obscurity.
