I thought Moore's law ended years ago and the current transistor sizes are merely marketing numbers?
I would wager a guess that most people have CPUs that are over-powered for their needs. I'm not saying researching and improvement is a waste of time, just that for 95% of the people, buying bleeding edge computers is a waste of money.
