Internet is a luxury compared to the survival essentials that are blocked in Gaza: food, water, electricity [1].

Since it is impossible to be concerned about Palestine without being viewed in a negative light, mandatory disclaimer: I am horrified of Hamas' actions and do not think they deserve any defense.

Though lack of internet connectivity can mean that we are less likely to observe atrocities happening in Gaza.

It's Israel destroying crucial civilian infrastructure. There was heavy bombing about an hour ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2a5TsMF0Uo

You can get fired for stating that kind of a thing in the US [1]

Cancel culture at its finest, canceling you on your opinions on a foreign war, canceling you on a your opinion on what to inject in your body, canceling you for investigating a historical event or other war crimes, land of the free!!

Thankfully I'm not in US.

No one's getting fired for showing support to Palestinian civilians.

Some people are losing job offers for showing support to Hamas terrorists.

It's advisable to maintain a separation between those things if you care about the fate of Palestine or civilians. If you conflate Palestinians with Hamas, you are condemning all Palestinians as terrorists. If you support civilians you are naturally against terrorists who use them as human shields.

It is both internet and mobile phone networks [1]

Why is this post "flagged"?

I tend to thinkg that termination of all communication services for 2.2 million people under siege, including their ability to call emergency services, is kinda worthy of discussion.

But I guess netblocks gets hundreds of comments on this website only if some country blocks some US tech company's website specifically, and not just the whole internet:

Will we see a starlink “en route” to Gaza like how we did for Ukraine?

No, because there needs to be Starlink receivers on the ground and Gaza is still under a brutal Israeli siege with nothing coming in or out. They also don’t have the regular power to run a receiver.

Ultimately, Elon is buddy buddy with Netanyahu and could give a fuck that he’s genociding Palestinians or cutting off their internet.
