Even Google CEO Sundar Pichai doesn't understand Google's privacy controls

If we look at his past performance, it's pretty obvious that Google CEO Sundar Pichai doesn't understand just about anything, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that he doesn't understand this particular thing.

It's unfortunate that Google is saddled with such an ineffectual CEO, whose product vision could probably be summed up as "oh well this could maybe be interesting I guess".

i am legitimately shocked that he has not been sacked with all the missteps that he has been at the helm for. i understand he would get a nice golden parachute but i think a wet piece of bread would be a better CEO than him

Is it really a surprise Google started rolling down the hill when Sundar Pichai became CEO?

What big thing has Google done since Sundar Pichai stepped into the CEO role?

Absolutely nothing. It's all past projects that came to fruition.

For what Google was, and what it has become... it's very sad.

He's been very thoughtful about pretty much everything, so maybe nothing at all

He's a no-op.

Just say no to Google. This is the only viable option if you value your privacy.

This is hard to do.

Some sites block on recaptcha

and many sites, such as the IRS or DMV interweave google services with their site.

This was my experience exactly. Tried dns blocking google.com and half the internet breaks.

If it's the shitty half, what's the problem?

If only.

Sounds nice but try saying no to Play Services. Android then _horribly_ breaks.

Easy solution --- don't use Android.

I haven't in years. I use e/OS instead.

Not in my experience. Yes, some poorly written apps may break but Android is usable without all the Google crud (hint: grapheneos)

"even"?

He is so far up from the product. Not surprising, is it?

why is it that somehow, the CEO is expected to be an expert in everything that the company outputs?

>why is it that somehow, the CEO is expected to be an expert in everything that the company outputs?

Who's expecting the CEO to be an expert?

He should probably have some familiarity with the things about which he's testifying in court.

The argument would be that the average user is expected to understand these privacy controls in order to make decisions about their data. If even the CEO of google, who is well positioned to be able to understand them if he chooses, doesn't understand them, then the average user has little hope.

Dumbar leaves a lot to be desired. When is Goog going to wake up and replace him?

No surprises here. Google is a huge company. Linux doesn't understand the entirety of Linux kernel anymore either.

Comparing Linus to Sundar. LOLOLOLOLOL
