If he was a normal (boring, careerist) editor, I might comment about third rails, and the idiocy of venturing near them. Given the article's backstory on Michael Eisen...I doubt that applies here. It sounds like he made a calculate public stand, and the outcome isn't particularly damaging to him.
Reddit is particularly terrible in this regards, at least the world news live thread. It's almost like it's under some state-actor online operation.
This is one more reason why I think the maxwellhill conspiracy [0] ought to get more oxygen - if true, Ghislaine Maxwell was a top worldnews moderator right up until she got arrested. In case anyone forgot, her dad was a major player in the academic publishing market...
