Ask HN: How do I restart my career

6 pointsrybamorska4 comments

Hi. My last contract have ended in January, for various reasons, but burnout was a contributing factor. Since then I've been passively replying to Linkedin offers, but it looks like this won't land me any job. I'd like to be more active, but I have no idea what approach could help me land a good job.

My main language is Haskell, and i know a bit of C/C++

Any advice?

On HN have a look at the monthly whoishiring threads and maybe add yourself there, too https://news.ycombinator.com/submitted?id=whoishiring

Two obvious problems

- you aren't applying actively

- your main language is Haskell

Ok, I've been applying actively, but not often, mostly because the amount of Haskell offers is limited. I'm willing to change language, and I'm currently considering Rust. Is this a good idea or is it still too niche?

Rust is certainly a more employable language than Haskell, but why do you have this paradigm of having one obscure language that you think is the language you "do"?

If you have a good amount of experience, you should be competitive for a lot of jobs where they use C#, Python, JavaScript/Node/TypeScript, etc.
