Instead, I'm looking at rtorrent's implementation, in my free time, and working on other things. Saved myself a lot of time trying to do something I probably would have done rather poorly.

The best implementations available are µTorrent, rTorrent, and Azureus, all with different strong suits. I exclusively use rTorrent in GNU Screen, but I don't download much from large public trackers.

as for free newsgroups, sometimes your ISP has usenet server access but naturally it's not very fast and binary retention is only but a few days, if at all.

But because people are all uploading and downloading the same file (if they used the same torrent), bad files are negatively reinforced and good files positively.
