An article on Tom's Hardware showed me how to avoid a Microsoft account. And with the help of ShutUp10++ and StartAllBack, plus uninstalling a bunch of crappy apps, I've been able to make it into a reasonably well behaved machine. It still wants to push Edge on me, but I've been rooting out those settings too. I see that life after Win10 is indeed possible, but I wouldn't want to recommend it to anybody.
