Ask HN: Why have people started including GPT in their usernames?

I noticed here, and on other sites there's a number of new accounts that end in GPT: Jaguar_GPT, shat_gpt, ChumpGPT, etc.

I don't really get the appeal of adding GPT suffix, especially when people act against GPT generated submissions. Is there any "reason" to this? Is this a thing?

Perhaps it's a symbolic statement that their data should not be used for training, in the thought that these ML systems are configured to avoid training on AI-generated data.

Yeah, like a kind of a robots.txt or nofollow. Heh. Although the naming is a bit ironic if that's the case. Perhaps _noai, _noMine, could be better? All seems kinda awkward tho. Hehe :)

Lol before I even click the link. Thank you, for the snort chortle laugh! :) haha

Bandwagon effect since GPT has been in the news?

Most likely spam

My suspicion is they're bots.

Might be gorilla marketing.

Or guerilla? :)

I see you are a fan of wordplay. Perhaps you will be interested that I (mis-)read your username as: Politermon (like a Polite Pokemon I guess! :) haha :p)

maybe i just really enjoy winter sports

No idea...

Yeah what's this about?

That's what we're all wondering!

I heard a similar complaint not too long ago about "keepa"-prefixed usernames.

Might just be a fad.

Lotta cryptobros calling themselves coolguy15.eth as well

Hahaha! No, there's no prefix. It's an indivisible whole, and it's an awesome username. The only fad is you. And your time is up.

Are you sure you don't have one of those GPT usernames? I think you might have it "backwards", senor.
