Google and Apple have both done quite well with custom silicon, why so pessimistic outlook for OpenAI? Seems with their hype they ought to be able to hire top tier talent without much issue

In fairness that's a very valid point. Certainly have the financial clout to go through with this in terms of talent and the nuts and bolts.
