That price is a bit much. The Asus G14, with a 7940HS and a RTX 4060, is $1400. Its not modular (which is a huge con) and a tiny bit heavier/bigger, but otherwise kinda blows the Framework away.
The build quality is on point, from what I've read. The problem is having to deal with HP.
Nice thing about SODIMMs is that you can now even upgrade to 96GB RAM. Maybe more in the future. Thats pretty sweet considering the APU has almost 10 TFLOPS - could possibly load large ml models.
I wonder how the thermals are with the 7940HS and RTX 4060 inside a 14" chassis? It must be getting hot under load/throttle down after a while?
Quite good. Asus uses liquid metal TIM and packs a comically dense heatsink into the 14" chassis.
SODIMMs have the caveat of being slow and power inefficient (They need 1.35V where desktop ddr5 runs at 1.1V) due to signaling limitations. A new format aims to address this:
