That's just the obvious stuff that I can write about. I live here and have experienced it personally how Germany treats businesses.

Ah, thanks for clarifying it: you're against GDPR! Difficult to sympathize, sorry. Being against encryption backdoors is very different from being against any legislation meant to actually protect privacy, and I find that the two are actually conflicting positions.

Then you really don't understand GDPR. GDPR is not about protecting privacy, GDPR is most of all about giving the legislator the opportunity to rip into businesses. Have you actually read GDPR? I have.

I have read and helped implement GDPR in my country. It's the greatest thing that happened to online privacy, finally a law that has teeth and can influence big tech. It empowers me as a citizen and makes me feel my data has value again.

Meanwhile our economies are literally beginning to shrink, our enemies are becoming stronger than us then going to war against us (Russia, Azerbaijan, Serbia, China, North Korea) and the world is on fire. You should consider trying to be a bit less aggressive if you're actually trying to improve the world. It's because of some people having such extreme, aggressive behavior that conflicts (such as the ones you're complaining about) start.

It's hard to imagine that his data is so important, that he's so wanted, that people care about his so much, that GDPR will make any difference whatsoever on his life. On the contrary, the world is burning, clock is ticking, and you're complaining about me being aggressive on HN?

I don't think you understand GDPR as it is about protecting privacy. It is however true that a nice side-effect of GDPR is giving legislators the opportunity to rip into businesses that don't comply with it. 10/10, can't wait until the DMA and DSA gets kicked into gear too.

Are you saying that you liked how Facebook and Google could cross-site track every single (logged-in or not) European and use that for targeted ads as well as share it with the NSA?

Yeah, a couple small good things in GDPR doesn't outweigh the bad and damage. Not even close.

Skimming through your previous posts I think we differ too fundamentally to have a reasonable discussion about this.

I'll state that I'm happy that your libertarian/anarcho-capitalistic views on regulations, taxes and government is an extreme position here and not the status quo.

It's definitely not the status quo. But you know, the world is in a shitty position (war, climate crisis, ecological disasters, etc), so maybe the status quo is to be blamed after all and look - that we do need change.
