I can give you one reason: Amazon is also a competitor to many online retailers. Putting your business in the lap of a competitor is not something you do lightly.
that's what Home Depot did, and they're a huge customer of GCP
Probably because Google doesn't have a good reputation at keeping products alive for long time?
... said on the post where Microsoft is deprecating a product.
Arguing that Google is better than Microsoft at managaging backwards compatibility and keeping things alive would be silly at best.
MS will delete your db and it's data, Google will delete Google Cloud in it's entirety.
Ask them
I've found GCP to be extremely expensive bandwidth wise, however the network is also really good. So I suppose it's understandable that they'd charge a premium.
Azure is cheaper than GCP considerably for my usecases
In contrast to my comment above about Azure taking care of the people who pay the bills, GCP's design around the billing and understanding spend UX is absolutely the most hostile of the big 3. Their design choices around hardware reservations and aggregating resources in the bill that make it impossible to understand what cost what is frustrating to say the least.
Because Google Cloud don't care about their customers and have zero support. Srsly educate yourself on the horror stories about businesses built on Google Cloud having their account catastrophically, irrevocably deleted with zero explanation or ability to talk to anyone about it.
Could encrypting at rest work?
How would that help?
Your competitor will still see the size of your business, what you pay for and where, etc. And they will set the price you pay. Better to avoid.
