Covid levels are so high, they’re hovering near 2020’s initial peak

We knew almost nothing about Covid back then and especially not how to treat it. We didn’t overreact then.

Probably the latter, but the situations aren't comparable. COVID is much less deadly than it was three years ago. Vaccinated people test positive but have little to no symptoms. The latest variant appears less deadly even to the unvaccinated. And we now have treatments.

Masking and distancing is still a good idea -- not because COVID is deadlier than flu, but because we should have been doing it for flu all along. It's an easy way to prevent a disease that causes a lot of harm. People shouldn't have to wait for apocalypses to to take easy measures that make the world better.

The people who would have died have already died (thankfully?)
