China plans to build a giant chip factory driven by particle accelerator

It might need less mirrors, but it’ll still need mirrors, and the whole stack of technology around reflection based reticles. Do they plan to develop that themselves?

EUV isn’t just ASML. It’s a whole bunch of companies from all over the world delivering the most advanced technology within each of their fields. It’s like the whole world coming together, contributing their best minds, companies and technologies for one purpose.

Even without US sanctions, China seems to be moving towards doing everything themselves. They’re also increasingly isolating the country in all aspects of life (great firewall and all that). I’m not so sure it’ll go well in the long term. For any other country it’d be a doomed project. China has a small chance of succeeding due to their sheer size. But the chance is still small, and they have a small window to achieve their goals, as the demographic collapse will make it increasingly harder with time.
