That's the link that was posted. What do you mean "context"?

The dot-com is the real one, the dot-org is the satire

It looks like the link posted on HN (.org) is a parody of a real company (.com)

LOL. Sorry, big woosh moment for me there.

Thank you for the context. This is great parody, up there with MSCHF’s best.

It's such an odd thing to read. Feels like satire at points throughout the homepage, and then entirely serious at others.

Edit: I see that it is satire! Looking closely at some of the other pages on the site this becomes clearer.

Makes sense they're based in Marin, sounds like your average, clueless, afraid-of-homeless Marin resident.

Some of the Hacker News people don't seem to get that this is a cruel parody of an actual business that's trying to help people in the Bay Area add some beauty and order to their streets.

I want to upvote for you pointing out that much has been missed, but the way you just blaze a trail past all the heartless NIMBYism & zoning your way overtop human inconveniences & take what you can seems super bad.

You can tell this is effective satire because it's flagged on HN. I swear, some of y'all would read Swift's "A Modest Proposal" and try to do a hackathon to get it implemented, the weekend after TortureNexusCon.

What's the deal with flagging on this site? How does it work? Are people just able to flag shit they find inconvenient whenever & that's that?

There are some very censor-ous voices about, it feels like.

This seems like such apt on the nose social commentary, poignant. Are the calls for censorship just abided when asked for? Are there any checks or restrictions on flagging on HN? Can flagging get overruled, and by whom and when?

There's a "vouch" option that (I think) can negate a flag. But I'm not sure.

[ vouch ] exists but it's an odd one, sometimes I see it, sometimes I don't - I think I might have lost my 'vouch' privleges by sticking up for too many flagged articles but then perhaps there's another hidden pattern at play <shrug>.

> What's the deal with flagging on this site? How does it work? Are people just able to flag shit they find inconvenient whenever & that's that?

Yes, de facto, it's flag stuff you don't like and/or otherwise do not want gaining attention.

It just seems like there should be some means to not let whomever wants to remove content for any reason they feel like.

I have sometimes seen "vouch" options but I guess maybe those permissions got removed. Because I ragged on the UK's fascist internet surveillance bill as horseshit, I think? So now I am unable to help others keep their voice. The systems here are undocumented & opaque & it sucks & is sad that hackers are subject to such unclear whims with no transparency & no way to negotiate for speech, of themselves or others.

Edit: I still have vouch options on some flagged posts.

How else could community based moderation possibly work? There may be guidelines, but ultimately the flag button means exactly one thing: "I think this should be flagged"

> Can flagging get overruled, and by whom and when?

dang can, at his discretion, put a flag shield on posts to keep them up longer, and if you email hn@ycombinator.com he's happy to discuss things with you.

1) I expect a lot of people saw the site and didn't realize it was satire, 2) as a Leftist tech person who reads Hacker News, whenever there's a discussion on here that is even slightly political, and I see the responses from a lot of HN users, I remind myself I read Hacker News for the insightful tech discussion.

Great parody. It is sad that this has become the most effective way to remove the homeless, and funny that it struck some sort of balance that our liberal standard tolerates.

The .org reads like parody

Wow that is flat out, unabashedly heartless. Not to mention those things are pretty ugly; not as ugly as human suffering though apparently.

don't forget that shantytowns are not only unsightly, but also bring crime and disease!

That’s wild

Dead link?
