Ask HN: Alternatives to Google Analytics?

After coming across this hilarious tweet/replies... https://twitter.com/typesfaster/status/1702766236138905769

... I notice I'm not the only one who throws Google Analytics on projects to get basic site analytics for about 30 seconds set up time.

But Google Analytics 4 is a bit of a mess, so I wonder what free alternatives people recommend?

The (very basic) things I want is hit counter for the site/pages and I liked (but don't necessarily need) the map that shows which countries the visits are coming from.

Any ideas/advice?
