A phoenix, a lime, and an “edible mushroom” join emoji family in Unicode 15.1

I've recently come around after being a dedicated anti-emoji grouch for years, and reading about them has taught me a lot about the Unicode standard.

The little pictograms of animals and objects are great, and it's fascinating to watch them evolve into an ad-hoc ideographic language in real time.

I still can't tell apart all the little faces though, and I never have any idea what they're supposed to mean. I wish it were standard to display the name as a tooltip / long-press.

My favorite emoji from 15.0 was the goose. Honk honk!
