It seems weird to me that the Iphone 15 (non-pro) models have support for only USB 2.0 speeds, but support for DisplayPort up to 4K HDR?
A16 already contains the ability to output to a second display (via the Lightning connector) and now directly passes the same signal as USBC alternate mode (i.e. not wrapped within USB packet data) but USB 3.0 would require a different controller for the USB protocol itself. That's my guess.
I don't know how the USB protocol works, but there's an analogous way of this working in the PCI spec so I guess that makes sense.
What? Are the new usb-c iphones only capable of USB 2.0 speed?
Half of them. The standard iPhone 15's will have USB 2.0 transfer speeds while the iPhone 15 Pro models will have USB 3.0 transfer speeds.
I’m more likely to plug in a display than anything that needs data. Hoping my Nreal AR glasses work!
My old Windows phone had a dock to make a desktop which was actually pretty cool. I could see a use for this
There will be no stage manager like some iPads have.
That would have been a killer feature, Samsung DeX is great, but Apple doing Stage Manager on Iphone would be huge.
It would blur the lines and converge UI even more when looking at the Vision headset UI. Many people only have a phone nowadays, being able to dock it to type efficiently or look at larger content would improve things.
