Although the title matches the article title, it may be nice to use "Salary" instead of pay here. That would reduce confusion. I thought that this article was about "Google Pay" the product.

No, the article headline and body incorrectly capitalize Pay

> The leaked salary data from Google reveals that employees with longer tenure with the company and who held higher-level positions tended to have higher salaries.

And Women and Black people are underrepresented in higher level roles.

Saved you a click on barely English articles.

Oof. Google (salary) pay data. Thought there was a Google Pay compromise for a moment. Even the article seems to capitalize Google Pay in lots of places throwing one for a loop.

We have quite comprehensive Google compensation information available on https://www.levels.fyi/companies/google/salaries/software-en...

You can even see the recency of each individual data point, and filter for specific levels. (Disclosure: I'm one the founders)

where is the data? Also article greatly exaggerate base pay, they confusing it with total compensation, I guess it makes the article more news worthy and clickable the higher the wages are.

Not sure what you’re talking about. They pretty clearly distinguished between base and total pay even for the highest earners…

> For instance, the highest reported base salary was for a level 7 software engineer, earning $718,000 in base salary and a total compensation package of nearly $800,000.

There's no way that's true. It may be "reported" as a typo or troll in the document.

Yes, I think the bonus factor over base salary is 25% or more for L7, so I'd expect salary + bonus to be $900k. The total comp would likely well over $1M, since GSUs (Google's version of RSUs) were not even mentioned.

Isn't pretty similar information available from Levels.FYI or eg Glassdoor? This is really bad coverage...
