Combatting RSS Overload

> Let me know if you’ve struggled with this and have ideas too.

I’ve seen in podcast players the option to “only keep X unplayed episodes”, customisable per feed. That could work for high volume RSS feeds too, or an “auto mark as read if older than X”. I’m not sure if any RSS reader supports those.

What I do is simply unsubscribe from more stuff. Cut the FOMO¹, embrace the JOMO². When I open my feed reader the goal shouldn’t be to feel dread of everything in there, but to have no more than a handful of things I truly want to check. Sources which post too often are prime candidates for removal, you can always add stuff back if you find out you miss them.
