The IITs are hard to get into and the sad fact is that no matter how high they raise their standards, there will be more than enough candidates who exceed those standards. In what is fairly close to a purely meritocratic exam, casetism, sexism, x-ism are just labels some people use to rationalize why they did not make it when competing with people who are brilliant and driven.
These institutions have educated some of the finest minds in the country, and their alumni have gone on to create hundreds of thousands of jobs, raising people of all castes out of poverty.
