A surprising explanation for the global decline of religion

Maybe people want a more rational basis for their beliefs and many religions are completely out of touch with the needs placed on people in modern societies?

This "study" says that the decrease in religion is due to exposure to automation, specifically, robots, for the last 20 years.

This to me is ridiculous. Just because you have two trends going in the same or opposite direction does not mean they are causal. Religion going down: yes. Robot exposure going up: yes. Therefore robot exposure causes people to not be religious. Seems really stupid.

We could also say that cell phone usage has caused a decrease in religion.

Holy correlation is not causation, Batman!
