Ask HN: What non-native technology would you use for mobile app in 2024?
Think about an app for custom built C2C eCommerce platform. Need to support iOS and Android for around 200k installed users in different countries. Currently using something as old as ionic v3 with Angular.
Planning a rewrite from scratch and this really feels like the best place to ask for different opinions / ideas / caveats / experiences regarding choosing the best technology.
Main things I'm currently looking to fix:
- Enjoyable development workflow
- hot code update availability (to be able to release without Apple / Google review)
- more future proof than ionic v3 + Angular (got caught in the Angular update mess)
- Obviously active native module community & development (I can't count the forks I've made from cordova-\* repos to make them work correctly)
- e2e testable (preferably with tools offered by the framework or their enterprise plan)
I'm currently very much leaning towards react-native (a bit influenced by the fact that our website is built with react) but really want to get ideas what's going on in this scene.
PS. Year is purposely 2024, as we all build things for the future not for today.
