Ask HN: What people say vs. what people mean, in life, at work

Come and work for us, we are a small friendly team... Which explains why people keep leaving?

An award winning agency... we spend a lot on advertising.

We are passionate about... nothing!

Wow I finally made the connected the dots regarding "award winning". I always wondered, why is that the focus instead of the actual product

"I have multiple streams of income" usually means: "I have to work two jobs to keep up my fancy lifestyle"

Or "My pay is so lousy I have to work multiple jobs to survive"

Im fine - anything from im dying to aktualy fine

Why do we say fine then?
