If you don't multi-boot it is generally easier to use efistub. As long as you put your kernel image in the same place you just need to add an UEFI boot entry once and that's it.
What I like about Refind is that it tries to actively scan for bootable systems. So if I slide in a bootable flash drive, I get a new icon I can select, rather than having to mash keys to get into the setup program and bypass the default boot order.
This was why I loved it so much. With m1 MacBook pros, I don't know how I feel about using osx anymore. Yeah arm is ok but I miss bootcamp.
