This is something I've been wondering for the several years now. Growing up in the Midwest and southern U.S, fireflies use to be common thing to see during summer evenings when it got dark. Now I rarely see them. Even when I do, its usually just a few.
I have the opposite experience in Michigan. I have so many fireflies that my yard looks magical just after dusk. More than I've ever seen.
