> However, Bowser now has to fulfil the other part of his sentence, in which he has been ordered to pay $14.5 million in damages, of which a $10 million payment to Nintendo is considered the priority.

> Bowser has paid $175 of the $14.5 million damages owed to date

After decades of kidnapping women and terrorizing the Mushroom Kingdom, Bowser finally faced justice for...circumventing DRM.

Bowser is an interesting case. He was clearly not an accidental victim of circumstance but his reparations are so far beyond what he did that it’s a good example of how corporations have the ability to crucify people way beyond what they should have the ability to do.

It very much seems like it should fall foul of cruel and unusual punishment protections.

But I guess that the problem with wording it that way is that maybe bankrupting an individual for life isn't considered cruel and unusual anymore.

It is really sad. I’m sure the world isn’t coming out to support Gary Bowser because there are many others who are actual victimless criminals they make better examples of system injustice. But what happened to him sets a really nasty precedent. I hope that the system eventually comes back and makes a more sane determination

I hadn't heard of Gary Bowser before now so I initially thought this was referring to Doug Bowser, the current CEO of Nintendo America.

These two are the only people with the surname Bowser I have ever come across, and they're both related to Nintendo in some way. It's a hilarious coincidence.

Makes you wonder if Nintendo will pursue Denuvo crackers now.

Ideally people just stop buying their shitty products and they go the way of Sega. Unfortunately quirky millennials need their nostalgia bits tickled.

I wonder what the performance overhead is...

Yeah. The Switch's CPU isn't exactly powerful by modern game console standards. I can't imagine that demanding games like Nintendo's flagship titles wouldn't have to run a little bit (or a lot) worse with Denuvo's DRM eating up cycles.

If using Ryujinx previously was an option, it will now become a necessity :D

> “Even if a game is protected against piracy on its PC version, the version released on Nintendo Switch can be emulated from day one and played on PC, therefore bypassing the strong protections offered on the PC version,” the company says. “This can happen with any of the numerous games available on Nintendo Switch.

Oh, so that’s why games tend to release on switch after a several month delay. I always wondered about that.

That’s not the only reason, as far as I’m aware. I believe unless you write your game in such a platform like Unity the Switch architecture and limitations are different enough from other platforms to often warrant significant extra work to port.

The switch limitations sure but the architecture of the switch is very PC like, it supports OpenGLES for instance. The PS5 has the most unique API as far as I'm aware.

Is there any crowdsourced effort we can join to somehow help break Denuvo?
