Xbox 360 Store shuts down on July 29, 2024

> Xbox 360 Marketplace, the console’s online store, will cease operations on July 29, 2024. After that day, 360 owners will no longer be able to purchase new games or entertainment content for their consoles, and the Microsoft Movies and TV app will stop working, too.

The availability of existing purchases and online game services will not be impacted.

For myself and many others in my generation, the Xbox 360 and many titles within that lifecycle were hugely impactful to online culture for us. It's sad to see the 360 continuing to ramp down, but also wild to realize its almost 20 years old and was still powerpc based.

Indeed, good times.

There's this bit too:

"users will continue to be able to buy backward-compatible games on newer Xbox consoles, including Xbox Series X/S, on which 360 games will receive “FPS Boost, Auto HDR, and faster loading times,” Microsoft says."

FYI These are some interesting articles on the XBox 360 architecture.
