US scientists achieve net energy gain for second time in a fusion reaction

nope, not when you account for:

1. losses in conversion of heat to electricity (generally under 50% efficient)

2. losses in electricity to EM power of the laser

we are still a long way's off from designing a fusion apparatus that can sustain the fusion reaction on its own power.
