It's actually quite easy to get a job in Germany as a tech person - in lieu of a degree, you can get a visa with 4 years of experience. But the HR teams are generally clueless when it comes to processing visas. Startups don't know how to navigate it and generally have to overpay expensive law firms to help facilitate the process. However, the salaries suck and most of the jobs are in Berlin, which imo, isn't for everyone. I guess it serves as a good jumping off point for travel and weekend fun.

Spot on. From my experience, if you come from America (specially Latin and Central) it's quite easy to feel great because the city is some sort developed and it's safe.

However, at the time that you travel across Germany or in more developed capitals it's starts to feel bad due to the high taxes and a perceived low return in terms of services in comparison with those places.

Would you compare that to the ease of getting a job and visa in the US or Canada, which I think is somewhat the point of the article. Germany might be easy but their processes currently seem more tedious than the US and Canada. Those are their competitors when it comes to skilled workers.

Idk about Canada but the visa process for tech workers in the US isn't exactly easy (unless you're from India or China, which represent 85% of all h1bs). You pretty much have to pay for a Graduate degree in the US to get to work here, which is expensive. Its kind of a pay to play model really. Germany's requirements are actually less strict, but agreed, the process is more nebulous. Hard to find resources online, mostly in German.
