Mainland China airs documentary signalling military preparation to attack Taiwan

A very costly exercise. They would in the end probably succeed but I doubt the current leadership would survive the closed door review of the costs, and there would be costs in men and materiel. Nobody likes counting bodybags.

I would be surprised if the rampant militarism we see outside is repeated so doggedly inside at senior levels. Many lessons will be being digested from Ukraine, and people will be reminding themselves pf how hard an opposed landing is.

The Chinese economy is pretty rocky. Cut off from western markets it has low domestic oil coal and steel stocks so you'd think they want to get over evergreen and their current economic mess too which could take a decade.

So my gut feel is they may still shout war war but they actually hope for jaw jaw more.

There is absolutely nothing new here.
