Ah... really.

Great artist I guess. But definitely not the kind of human being I would want in my life.
Morrissey's (quite interested) statements on how she was treated, and the fact that she wasn't the nicest person, are not mutually exclusive.
History is made by unreasonable people, as the saying goes, and she definitiely fit that definition.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't O'Connor die of natural causes?
She then struggled with personal problems of various nature, always remaining fiercely outspoken on pretty much any political subject you can imagine, and a bit of a contrarian (she recently converted to Islam). She was largely ostracised by the entertainment industry until the very end.
Morrissey is the former singer for The Smiths. He has exposed fairly controversial views, who many would call deeply racist, and was hence similarly "firewalled" by the mainstream industry - although arguably not to the level of O'Connor (probably because his fanbase has always been bigger, or because he's an English man living in LA rather than an Irish woman living in Ireland). He has always had a penchant for being a contrarian and attacking what he sees as hypocrisy in the mainstream. The death of O'Connor gave him a chance so big he couldn't pass it on.
Isn't this what he is doing right now?
