Remember in the 1980's when you might dial in to a BBS that was run by some tempermental teenager who randomly decreed whatever arbitrary and inconsistent rules suited him on that particular day?

Well that kid earned a few billion bucks and runs Twitter/X now.

Another example of why social media users are content slaves, or at best, sharecroppers, on the lord's platform.

Yep. If the public or a trusted nonprofit doesn't own it or you don't run it, then it's building a castle in the sand with waves lapping at your feet.

Unsurprising and as expected. Just like the subreddits that were taken away by Reddit, Twitter/X can swap and take away usernames and does not owe money to anyone in exchange for ownership of any username.

Given Twitter has done this before with brands even before Elon took over, why expect anything different now?

I mean, EM set the expectation with his free flow of information and anti-draconian dream. I'm curious to see if anyone honestly believed it.

We could use user-generated data rights just like we have user-generated data liability for both the users and limited exemptions to Section 230 for platform owners

Of course. It's one dude's personal board now.

Now I finally realise what Musk has been reminding me of since he took over Twitter. Remember forums back in the day where sometimes the owner / admin was just a little bit too involved? A little bit too self-righteous, imposing inane rules after being slighted, etc.

I've not quite been exposed to this on the same level in years (apart from some Discord servers) until Musk's Twitter takeover.

look at the fall of freenode in the past year or two for a similar situation

The world's richest man bought his favorite toy. This was kind of expected in hindsight.

The alcoholic bought the bar.
