I get it's "just a prank bro" but if you look at the issues for the repository it's full of other similar trolling, especially within the current 656 (!) closed issues. It would suck as a developer on the project to deal with that.

Open source is supposed to benefit everyone and here we are trashing this project in this instance just because of anger towards the name of a company?

And if you look at the PR's and contributors you can see that even the constructive ones have been ignored, there have been zero outside contributions and you then realize, that the entire point of the repo is a PR stunt by Musk, to deflect from the fact that the juicy bits of the algorithm are still closed source.

So yeah after a while these kind of things attract humor.

I gather your point seems to be "this should be expected" but my point is this shouldn't be celebrated or acceptable, no matter what Elon Musk says. There's value in the code being open source and the devs are being penalized for doing their job.

The way I interpreted it wasn’t “this should be expected” but that this repo isn’t actually maintained or used for legitimate purposes. It simply exists for publicity purposes.

You don't think it has any value, even educational? Seems there's a lot there. Last commit 2 weeks ago shows the following:

I got about 40% of the way down (to `.../functional_component/filter/ReplyFilter.scala`) and it's mostly variable renames, slight shuffling of old code, and the occasional new file of uncommented Scala creating a new XYZBuilder class for something else they want to track(?).

Couldn't see anything even vaguely interesting unless you were looking for examples of Java-style FactoryBuilderFactoryInstanceBuilder madness.

Counterpoint: If you confuse your companies GitHub Account as it's press release page or engineering focused blog, you likely just passed the duck typing test for your GH account being your companies personal news outlet! Therefore, troll comments should have been expected. Rookie mistake, should've turned off the comment section.

I for one really appreciate all the random spam on the open source project I work on, because it's about 1 comment a month. Some of the jokes about my mother may go a bit far, but recently, I've been taking things very seriously imagining positive intention, and it's fun seeing them caught off guard.

Don't worry no one at Twitter is looking at these issues, never did.

Your query shows 9 items. Most of those 600 have comments by other non-Twitter GitHub users, and are simply closed, because they're obvious trolls. Must be nice to say "I closed 100 issues on GitHub" in your weekly review of whether you're a useful asset to the company.

I was the person that created the issue. It is a joke and while I understand your concerns regarding respecting open source repositories I think it is important to be aware of the context of this specific one. The company shows significant signs that it doesn't care too much about the contributions and just use this repo as a publicity stunt.

People can still look at the repository for educational purposes and search for specific real issues, it is not like I was making the code dirty by merging a PR.

Either way, I'm sorry if it ended up offending anyone, besides of course the person that decided it was a good idea to layoff most of the company and throw a 5 billion worth branding out of the window.

Hah, when I followed a link and after having read a tweet, my muscle memory actually took over and I clicked the x automatically. It took me a second to recognize why I was feeling surprised.
