Wabi-Sabi

Excuse the self-promotion, but I recently spent quite a bit of time researching the concept of wabi-sabi and wrote a post about it. It can be a notoriously vague concept, but it does have fairly specific roots.

This resonates with me more and more as I age. I like seeing items that have been worn out over time. It's a testament of their sturdiness, their story.

A shot in the dark, but a few years back I saw a Twitter thread of someone who wanted to make a photo book about this concept. With photos of, for example, a lock with scratches from people missing the key hole. Does that ring a bell to anyone? Has the book ever been made?

This exists in some parts of European culture, but it's not named with anything as generic as this.

One example is the "antiquing" of newly produced violins.

This is why I always hide at least one bug in my code.

Finally an excuse for all those abandoned git repos
