Arctic Ocean could be ice-free in summer by 2030s

The most interesting thing about this phenomenon is also the saddest: some of our brightest minds are completely captured by the long standing, comprehensively documented, and exhaustively disproven anti-climate change propaganda machine. How is it that someone can be so in tune with the advance of science in some areas of technology, while completely unable to absorb any information at all with regards to climate science?
But even people who excel in some part of science are also just people, who can be extra 'stupid' in other areas, which can even be other scientific disciplines. The 'extra' comes from an additional pitfall with people who have a track record of intellectual success in a certain area: they sometimes are overly confident on area's outside their expertise and appeal to their own authority (which they don't realize they do not have).
As for this forum, I think most of the comments are actually politically motivated. There is this all consuming split between The Left and The Right, fought mostly along the frontlines of the culture wars. But somehow Climate Change ended up on The Left, and a lot of naive techbro optimism feels more at home on The Right. I imagine they don't really like dealing with things that aren't easily fixable by technology, or with the negative consequences of our technological advances as a society. Thus they resort to denial.
It really is a pity, this means it is very hard to have a decent discussion about the science, and also to have an honest political conversation on what to do about it. Online conversation about this topic for the most part feels like yelling at the other guys how their sports team stink.
There have definitely been incorrect climate doomsayer predictions for decades now and frankly its exhausting noise to most people...

I'm not denying climate change is occurring but I wish that people would stop with all the doomsday Chicken Little "The Sky is Falling!" tactics. "Could" is doing a lot of work in that headline. It is incredibly unlikely that all of the ice in the Arctic Ocean will completely melt in 17 years.
The Earth is one of the most complicated systems in existence, it is arrogant and naive to think that we can effectively model its climate and make accurate predictions. We don't have the understanding or the computing power to input all of the necessary variables.
Yet here we are.
1971 - New Ice Age coming by 2020 or 2030
1972 - New Ice Age by 2070
1978 - No end in sight to 30-year global cooling
2008 - Arctic will be ice-free by 2018
2008 - Climate genius Al Gore predict ice-free Arctic by 2013
2009 - Climate genius Prince Charles says we have 96 months to save the world
2013 Arctic ice-free by 2015
I give up.
