Work on Euclid, ESA's dark energy space telescope, as a C dev (Lisbon/remote)

The Institute of Astrophysics and Space Sciences in Portugal invites applications for a (C language) software developer position to work on ECTile, the software that defines the Euclid mission's observation strategy. The successful candidate will join a team that develops algorithms for spherical tessellation, sky patching, tile generation, and route optimization, using quaternion algebra and C programming. The candidate will also maintain and improve the existing codebase of 70,000 lines of C.
The minimum requirement is a bachelor degree or higher in software engineering, computer science or related fields. High value will be put on experience in geometrical algorithms and quaternion algebra. A PhD is not mandatory. The position is funded by the Portuguese Space Agency for 1 year, renewable for up to 3 years or more. The candidate can work remotely or in Lisbon.
Euclid is a space telescope that will map the geometry of the dark universe by observing billions of galaxies across cosmic history. It is one of ESA's flagship missions, and successfully launched to space on the 1st of July 2023.
