Tell HN: Hire Technical Writers

I often read comments here on HN stating how difficult writing documentation is and how big of a chore it can be. _Writing is hard_, the HN hive mind seems to think. Well, you've a solution: Hire technical writers. I wrote a letter in my blog about this not long ago: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36472637

Some of the responses to that thread were a bit depressing. Some conflated technical writing (documentation) with technical content marketing. Others said they'd never seen tech writers at their jobs before. Is technical writing so unknown? If it is, what would help you understand what it is about and how it can provide value to your team?
