Integrations shouldn't be walled gardens: The issue with commercial Unified APIs

It seems to be a little known secret that coding around HTTP APIs is the easiest kind of coding that there is with the exception that OAuth and other authentication systems can turn a 30 minute project into a 3 day project. Call it “integration” now and the sharks can smell blood and start up startups and buy a lot of ads and generate a lot of blog spam to produce products that make the problem harder instead of easier and, worse yet, create lock-in.
