I'm working with multiple junior developers in multiple projects.

I always want to find a way to encourage/force them to write tests.

And I want this process to be integrated into the CI/CD and pre-push workflow.

This approach has the inherent risk to become a text-book example of Goodhart's law. Your juniors have no idea how or what to test, and you are copping out of the hard conversation, programmer-style.

How does one get out of sight of the scary tool imposed by the senior dev? Unit tests without assertions to boost coverage to the rescue.
