We must end the tyranny of printers in American life

For other printing --- forget ink tanks/cartridges. It is an expensive exercise in frustration and futility. Buy a small business class laser printer with duplex capability instead. It costs more up front but pays for itself over time.
The device itself is more reliable. The ink costs much less and doesn't dry out/has a longer shelf life. The print quality is prefectly acceptable for typical business class documents. The duplex capability uses half the paper.
I have used a Canon laser printer (LBP612C) for the past 5 years without any real issue. It even accepts 3rd party cartidges for reduced costs. The printer is networked so I can easily print from my desktop, laptop or phone.
The tyranny is no more for me. Printing is good again.
But be careful about third-party ink. Laser printing is harsh — heating just the right dots to very high temperature, and just the right high temperature if you're doing more than monochrome, is tricky business. The printers don't print a matrix of pixels any more. Rather, the printer firmware is generally written with a particular ink in mind. It knows the particle sizes in the ink and how they react to different temperatures.
