Apple files patent for rollable/scrollable displays

It was amusing to imagine somebody several thousand years ago unrolling a papyrus scroll to review the day's transactions, and fast forwarding to tomorrow where we have Minority Report-style transparent rollable screens to do the same.

With models starting at 20" up to 50", your latest team presentation, nostalgia slideshow for the camping trip, or video call from the summit of Everest just got easier...

I mean, portability is huge for displays...you may have a projector, OK but you still need a display surface.

I could see just that aspect alone being pretty helpful.

Did they invent a rollable display? Or they’re patenting the use of such a hypothetical object, should it ever be?

Attempting to patent a non-extant invention would seem unwise. If the patent became granted, I think it would start the 15-year clock. After that timeout, you lose the patent. If you actually create the invention some time after somehow already being granted its patent, you have less time to make use of your exclusive rights.
