Twitter admits to having a Verified spammer problem

It's about to get much worse. Today they announced reply-revenue-sharing for bluecheck users. People who post big viral threads where people spend a lot of time in their replies will now get revenue sharing. For example, identity-politics conservative streamer Tim Pool just announced he got tipped out about $5k through the system.

This creates a huge incentive for the worst kind of trolling and attempting to go viral. "Feeding the trolls" now funds them.

Cool, everyone gets what they want. People are already leaving.

Nobody could have seen this coming!

Who could have guessed that making "verification" trivially easy would have downsides???

I believe this was one of the emergent features of Twitter.

By verifying a range of "important" people and giving them priority access to inboxes, it made it easier for verified twitter users to connect with each other.

It's a problem they don't mind having. And likely won't try too hard to solve. If at all.
