They are required to file forms for the gifts they get, and Thomas might be convicted of failing to do that. The punishment is a small fine. Which could well be paid for him via Venmo.(And it would likely be settled out of court.)
Trial in the court of public opinion is really the only trial this will ever get. That's not how I would run things, but then, if I were running things, we wouldn't have gotten into this position.
Now I'm wondering if anybody's scraping that data and making a graph for looking at later. I assume tying accounts to people would be hard, but that's just a matter of time once you have the data.
