It's closely tied to violence to be sure. If it were removed would the violence go away though? Would groups with a history of violence find other ways to provoke each other?

Yeah, it's straight up thuggish chest beating come at me posturing. Weirdly that doesn't always have to lead to violence and can in some circumstances lead to an afternoon of heavy haka with everybody going home afterwards. Or not.
