My comments were based on my own family.

Then don't project such things as generalizations. The general fact was that working in factories was far more brutal than working on the family farm.

It's not that I assume that my family is/was representative, it's that I don't fall for potted history because of knowing about real people.

If your worldview is wrong enough, even a few data points will show with high probability it is incorrect.
